You will know you are approaching your deepest work, when it is not you that is working on the work at all, but you find in reality that the work is working on you; in you; for you; with you.
When it is searching for ways to reach your conscious mind – we call these problems – with a clean break from old thinking, and scary fresh new ways to express your heart.
When it gently asks you if it can borrow your imperfections and flaws, so that it may respectfully shine your truest love brighter than ever, from the inside out, casting patterns of new designs on the world around you – designs whose light and shadow are defined by the shape of those flaws and limitations through which it shines.
When it patiently waits for you to quiet and still long enough that it can suggest to you totally different modalities than you are accustomed to, and perspectives that defy the prejudice of your conditioned responses and old styles, conventions, and habits.
When you find yourself held back from dominating your own work with your sheer strength of will, to complete it on some arbitrary deadline… when you find that the work itself challenges you – not in its size or complexity, but in your own readiness to give it birth in this world, then you know… it is your deepest work.
And the work, is you, for now.
It is a great gift to accept this task, for you humbly offer the world yourself with utter transparency, humility, sincerity, and a power far beyond your own strength; that is: the power to release others into their own, deepest work. For that is your art.
